Over the past few weeks, Wizards has been slowly drip-feeding us the Secret Lair drops from the Cats are the Best Superdrop. While these have varied greatly in quality, the endeavor ended on a bang today. Cats of Chaos is the last MTG Secret Lair drop to be revealed for Cats are the Best, and it offers both adorable art and incredible value.
The Cats Of Chaos MTG Secret Lair Drop

Unlike most of Cats Are the Best’s drops, there are multiple highlights in The Cats of Chaos. Aggravated Assault is the clear highlight overall, clocking in at around $28 on the low end. This enchantment enables a huge range of infinite combat combos in Commander, appearing alongside Neheb, the Eternal and Magda, Brazen Outlaw. It even shows up fairly regularly in cEDH, as a win con in Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers.
The other big banger in this drop is Aura Shards, a Game Changer that is largely considered unfun by the community. In Commander, this is a rough card to play against, enabling its owner to remove artifacts and enchantments with ease. Factor in some use in Premodern decks like Survival of the Fittest, and Aura Shards more than earns its $16 price tag.
After this, things drop off considerably in terms of value, but Cats of Chaos still has some playable staples. Utopia Sprawl, a multi-format all-star that sees use in Pauper, Modern, and Legacy is a great pick. It’s even better in Commander, too, where it serves as one of the best early ramp options all the way up to cEDH. While it only costs around $1.50 on the low end, this is still a fantastic reprint to see.
Rounding things out, we have Chaos Warp and Fell the Mighty, two Commander staples that sadly fall into the bulk category price-wise. Despite this, Chaos Warp is actually one of the most-played cards in the format, appearing in 1.32 million decks by EDHREC numbers, including many cEDH lists. That said, thanks to a large number of reprints, copies currently run you $0.40.
Fell the Mighty is a similar story, seeing substantial play in around 100,000 decks, but only selling for around $0.20 at the moment. It excels alongside Commanders with low power, like The Council of Four, but a total of 11 printings keep it cheap.
A Real Showstopper
Overall, even with three of its cards being fairly low-cost, Cats of Chaos still delivers a whopping $46 in value. Given the standard $29.99 Secret Lair asking price, this makes it a fantastic deal right out of the gate. That’s before you factor in the usual Secret Lair price multiplier, too. The previous Secret Lair printing of Aura Shards goes for $34, for example, while the Jurassic Park Chaos Warp is worth a staggering $26.
If prices here follow a similar trajectory, Cats of Chaos could easily be worth double its current projected value, or more. Though premiums like this are far from guaranteed here, the artwork’s cute cats could make it more likely. In any case, we won’t have to wait long to get our hands on this one, as it goes on sale with the rest of the Cats are the Best Superdrop this coming Monday, June 15th.
